December 29th – no class!
We don’t have class and rather than using this awesome opportunity to travel around Daegu, I had to get groceries. It is winter and Korea isn’t known for having abundance of vegetables during winter time since it is so cold and most of the land is mountainous.
This is also the reason for Kimchi: fermentation of cabbages so it can be saved for a snowy day. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that vegetables cost an arm and a leg here… They have to be imported or grown in greenhouses.
We went to Homeplus, which is probably more classy than the local Safeway back home. The vegetables are nicely packed with all the bad parts removed. $1 Canadian is 860 Won about… so this is INSANE! Eggs and chicken are also expensive thanks to a recent Chicken flu incident.
There was also a food court on the first floor of the Homeplus … They had various restaurants but I went to one that made Bibimpap and it was delicious. This is the reason why people eat out rather than cook … the food is too expensive and you have to take the time to make it.
First regret of the day – I think I could have skipped these performances … but at least one of my friends performed and that was rather entertaining …
There was free dinner afterwards, it makes me feel less bad. However, there was so much wasted food !!!!!!!!!!! It hurts my heart .. I can eat that for a week :'(. [Never allow students to do buffet because they don’t know how hard it is to make money]
My reward for the difficult day. LOL
One day close to the end of 2016!
