31 일째 – Walk in the park, Cafes, and New Years in Daegu!

It is finally New years eve!  Life goes on as any Saturday … the stores are all open and it is as quiet on the street as ever.

I woke up early and went for a morning walk with my friend.  We got a bottle of juice each to begin our walk.  We walked around the lake and then got distracted by another park that we didn’t notice before.

oh! it is a park!

I think the park is for kids because it has a lot of cute wooden structures and even a playground made entirely out of wood.  Along the paths are also many descriptions of plants and insects that can be found in this park … during spring and summer that is.  In the winter time, it looks slightly dreary.

It was actually quite interesting and there were many photo opportunities.

Arriving home after the morning walk, we ventured out a little bit later for lunch.  It was at a traditional restaurant a couple of blocks away from the Yeungnam Train station called 엄마밥줘 and I have continued to visit there many more times after that.  It wasn’t particularly cheap, but I am too lazy to find anything else … and it is quite easy to find.

After lunch, we went to a cafe called Cafe Tree Jeu.  We went here because the owner of our initial choice,  Cafe In, was out hiking with his cute cafe dog and had the shop closed for the day.  The drinks were a bit expensive at Tree Jeu but the cafe was quite cozy … there are two levels and both have ceilings to floor windows, bringing natural light into the cafe all around.

…. then we just waited … in boredom I played with a selfie application.  This pretty girl is not me…and yet it is!

When the drinks were all finished, we just moved to another cafe – this time Cafe Vero.  It has cheaper coffee, free WiFi and a different kind of cozy atmosphere .. except the washroom was outside and that was a little cold.

…then we waited some more.  I read a book on how to be happy!  The fourth trick is to cut off all bad relationships, just like this angry mushroom.

Finally, we made our way to the Yeungnam Station to meet up with the others and we were on our way to Daegu.  I was also meeting up with my Korean exchange friend at Bangwoldang Station so we can go to the countdown together.

We went to Dongsonro Snack Alley to find some Samgyeopsal (삼겹살).  We had two set of imported meat (because the local ones are just too pricey), and it includes the lettuce and all the necessary side dishes to make some amazingly tasty meat wraps.

After dinner, we headed to the MF bar just to waste time.  When we got there, there were barely anyone in the bar and I thought – how can they do business?  There was a cute little dog in Santa clothing sitting on the table.  They drink was a little watery, despite how the price. However, there were so many people that came in a very short period time!!! It became very crowded in the little space.  They were mainly foreigners – I have yet to see so many foreigners located in one single place.

Finally, we head to the countdown area.  It was the 2.28 memorial park, which is just behind Dongseongro.  Our local friend led the way.

Many people but we couldn’s see CJamm

It was around 11 something but there were so many people already.  We tried to move closer because we thought we heard someone performing .. it was CJAMM!  He was a contestant on Show me the money 3 AND 5 … and he came in second the second time around.  It was so cramped that I couldn’t move at all!!! I was so happy I was slightly taller than the girls here but there were also a lot of tall guys too.  My Korean friend got stuck in the crowd and couldn’t move at all. LOL

We had to get out because there were just way too many people but leaving the crowd posed another problem … we were going against the crowd!!!  Finally, we made it to an open area and they started the countdown!

After the countdown, they rang the ceremonial bell and flew the flying wish balloons.  People started leaving afterward but my friends wanted to stay because they had read that there were fireworks there!

Courtesey of Asa

The train had extended until 1 in the morning, which was great because my friend and I just went back to Gyeongsan and sat at a Lotteria until 3 AM.  I think she was being nice and went home with me because I didn’t want to party on afterwards …

Word of the day: 명함도 못 내밀다 – not being able to get anywhere with this skillset.
